Why Velveteen Lop rabbits?
Velveteen Lops are no ordinary bunnies. With their distinctive velvety fur and lop ears, they are truly enchanting creatures. These rabbits are known for having curious and affectionate natures, making them perfect companions for families and entertaining animals to show. Weighing about five to seven pounds, they strike a balance between being manageable but not too small to be fragile. They also come in a striking variety of colors and patterns, adding an extra layer of charm to their characteristics.
Showing Velveteen Lops
Velveteen Lops combine some of the best traits of their Lop and rex forebears: the velvety fur, the lop ears, and the gentle temperament.
Velveteen Lops show under an ARBA Certificate of Development. The breed is undergoing the process of becoming recognized with the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA). Velveteens can be shown at ARBA events but are ineligible to compete with other breeds for Best in Show until they are recognized. FFA and 4-H youth exhibitors should verify Velveteen Lop show status with their rabbit project leaders prior to choosing a breed in development for county shows.
